SUMMER 2024 LEARN-TO-ROW CAMPS

CAMPS FOR EXPERIENCED ROWERS

Summer is the perfect time to come out and give rowing a try! At the Atlanta Juniors boathouse, we offer one-week camps throughout the summer. During each camp, participants will learn the fundamentals of rowing. Additionally, each camper learns about the sport, equipment, terminology, and safety of moving boats on and off the water. We begin a basic workout program, and everyone has a chance to get out on the Chattahoochee River.

PREREQUISITES: NONE! Camps are co-ed for students ages 12-18.  Campers are grouped each session by age, size, and skill level. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable athletic wear and bring a water bottle.

NOTE: Once you have completed two sessions of Learn to Row, consider signing up for a Returning Rower camp!

Technical Open Practices
Rowers with some prior competitive experience can enjoy a flexible practice schedule this summer. Our open practices are for athletes who want to get back on the water and develop their technique and on-water fitness. Space is limited in all practices to enable a low coach-to-athlete ratio, an ongoing emphasis on sculling and boat skills, and a focus on safe distancing and instruction.

PREREQUISITES: Any returning rower or coxswain from Varsity or Novice squads. This camp is open to all high school aged rowers, including spring 2024 seniors.

Practice Times:
Drop-in practices will be held 7-8:45am OR 9-10:45am, beginning the week of June 10 and running through the summer until August 3. (We will add more daily sessions if needed.)

Technical Open Practice E-Punchcard:
Athletes from our competitive squads will need to purchase an e-punchcard – the cost is $175 for 10 summer practices. Once registered for an e-punchcard, athletes will be added to an email list with access to a sign-up form for practices which will be accessible on Sunday midday for the upcoming week’s sessions. Rowers must sign up in advance for the sessions they want to attend each week.  Attend the practice times that work for you and for your summer schedule!

Returning Rower Camp
This two-week camp for both rowers and coxswains offers an advanced rowing experience with a heavy focus on the technical aspects of the rowing stroke. Rowers will be grouped by age and skill. The most advanced rowers will focus on small boat training, while the less experienced rowers will be focusing on the application of the rowing stroke.

PREREQUISITES: Returning D-Squad and Rec Team athletes. Questions about your eligibility? Email us.

Camp Dates:
Session 1: June 17 – June 28
Session 2: July 15 – July 26

Session Times:
Mon-Fri 9:30am-12:00pm

Session Price:
$375/session

Fall Preseason Camp
This two-week camp is designed to jump start rowers into training prior to the beginning of the fall season. Both Varsity and Novice Preseason Camps will be split between water and land training, with four practices each week. Athletes will work with the fall season competitive coaching staff, and get to know their future teammates.

PREREQUISITE:  None, open to new and returning rowers, and anyone who wants to give it a try. Many athletes are planning to row in the fall season with one of AJRA’s competitive squads, while some athletes are checking out AJRA for the first time. If you are a returning athlete, choose the squad that you will be eligible to row with in the fall of 2024 – novice athletes from the 2023-2024 year are eligible for varsity preseason in 2024!

Camp Dates:
Monday August 5 through Saturday August 17. (Fall season practices will start at the end of August.)
