FALL ROWING SEASON
Fall season racing includes Head Races that are three to five kilometers long (15-25 minute races). Head Races are timed events with each boat starting approximately 30 seconds apart — the boat with the fastest time wins.

Atlanta Juniors also have seasonal programs aimed at helping new rowers build their skills and learn about the sport. See the Squads page to learn more about Novice, Recreational and Development Squad programs, as well as the many camps offered throughout the summer for both new and experienced rowers.
WINTER CONDITIONING SEASON
Winter season is about training, conditioning and building towards the spring championship season. Practices involve indoor training on erg machines, weight training, and a small amount of water training as weather allows. Winter competitions may include indoor erg events, such as the Atlanta Erg Sprints, held at Georgia Tech each year.
SUMMER TRAINING SEASON
While regional and national championship regattas take place in summer, we also focus on training for the next school year and introducing new rowers to the river. Warm temperatures and no school make summer a great time to row. AJRA offers many summer rowing camps at various levels, from Learn-to-Row Camps to Technical Development Camps for returning rowers. Camps provide a great way for athletes to learn or develop rowing skills, within the structure of summer camp fun.
