A standout weekend in Nashville saw Atlanta Juniors rise to the top, with eight event wins, strong varsity finishes, and the long-awaited return of the Overall Points Trophy to Roswell.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Atlanta Junior Rowing Association (AJRA) dominated the competition at the 2025 Head of the Music City Regatta, winning the Overall Points Trophy for the first time in many years. The event, held October 11 on the Cumberland River, drew a strong field of Southeast and Midwest crews, with AJRA entering 47 boats across middle school and high school divisions.
AJRA crews posted multiple first-place finishes across both sweep and sculling events, underscoring the club’s depth and technical range:
Men’s Youth U19 4+
Men’s Youth U17 4+
Men’s Youth 2-
Middle School Mixed 8
Men’s Junior 1x
Women’s Youth 4x
Women’s Youth 2-
Men’s Lightweight 4+
The Men’s Varsity 8+ finished 2nd, and the 2V earned 4th in a competitive field of 18 entries. On the women’s side, the Women’s Varsity 8+ placed 3rd, followed closely by the 2V in 4th, highlighting AJRA’s balanced performance and depth across all categories.
“Being able to win the overall points trophy at Music City, as our first race of the year, was a great accomplishment by our athletes" said Coach Maddux Castle, Women's Head Coach of AJRA. “It points toward the work that they put in thus far this season. The different events that led to us being able to claim that victory spanned from the top eights all the way to our novice entries. The coaches are incredibly proud of the results from every member of our squads.”
Men's Head Coach Zach Smarr added "Bringing home our first team points trophy in recent memory was a great way to begin the 2025-2026 race year. As coaches, we love seeing individual boat successes, but teamwide success is what it is all about. Seeing that all of our athletes contributed towards one goal was special, and we are excited to see how that can push us forward the rest of this year."
With the Music City victory behind them, AJRA now turns its focus to the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Massachusetts on October 19, where both the men’s and women’s varsity eights will race against top domestic and international crews at the world’s largest rowing event.
Founded in Roswell, Georgia, and training on the Chattahoochee River, AJRA supports over 200+ junior athletes from across the Atlanta area. The program continues to build on its tradition of competitive excellence and athlete development, producing high-performing crews that consistently represent the Southeast on the national stage.
