AJRA Summer Programs

Warm temperatures and no school make summer a great time to row. AJRA offers summer rowing camps for middle and high schoolers at various levels, from Learn-to-Row Camps for brand new rowers, Returning Rower camps for those with a basic foundation of rowing, as well as Competitive Racing Camps for returning high school rowers. Camps provide a great way for athletes to learn or develop rowing skills, within the structure of summer camp fun.

We invite you to learn more below.

Summer Starts Here

AJRA Competitive Summer Racing Camp

Sun up. Oars in. Let’s go – Ann Arbor, Michigan awaits.

The Atlanta Junior Rowing Association Competitive Summer Racing Camp is designed for experienced athletes ready to continue their development at a high level and compete on the national stage. This is a competitive team-only program, open exclusively to athletes who raced as Novice or Varsity during the Spring 2026 season. This camp is not available to DSquad athletes or new rowers without high school racing experience.

Following a demanding spring season, athletes will transition

into a focused summer training block built around speed, racing experience, and team development. With limited roster spots (approximately 50–55 athletes) and lineups structured around complete boats, this program offers a highly competitive and intentional training environment.

Training, Schedule & Costs

Athletes will train six days per week (Monday–Saturday) from

7:00 AM – 12:00 PM, including a daily refuel and recovery break from 9:00–10:00 AM. Training will emphasize technical refinement, race preparation, and high-performance conditioning.

Due to the timing of Youth Nationals, start dates and costs will vary:

Non-Nationals Athletes:

June 15 – July 16   |  $2,400

Nationals Athletes:

June 22 – July 16  |  $2,250*

*Nationals athletes receive a one-week recovery period prior to joining

camp and a prorated discount to reflect the adjusted training schedule.

Competition: USRowing 2026 Summer Nationals

All camp athletes will compete at the USRowing Summer

National Championships in Ann Arbor, Michigan (July 11–16, tentative) – one of the most competitive regattas in the country.

This event features four days of racing, each operating as its own competition:

• Saturday: 2k – Small Boats

• Sunday: 2k – Large Boats

• Monday: 1k – Small Boats

• Tuesday: 1k – Large Boats

Athletes will race in at least three events, typically one per day, with heats in the morning and finals in the afternoon. Lineups will be formed based on performance to create the most competitive boats possible.

What's Included:

• 4 weeks of training (3 weeks for Nationals athletes)

• Experienced, dedicated coaching staff

• Entry into Summer Nationals

• Boat transportation

• Roundtrip flights to Ann Arbor

• Airport transfers

• Housing accommodations

• Majority of meals (some lunches may be athlete-purchased)

• Team activities and evening programming

While highly competitive, this camp also emphasizes team bonding and experience, with organized outings and group dinners during travel.

College Recruiting Opportunities:

Rising seniors will have the opportunity to participate in the Coaches Tent at Summer Nationals (if offered), connecting with collegiate coaches. AJRA staff will assist athletes in preparing rowing resumes and navigating recruiting conversations.

Registration & Payment

Due to uncertainty around Nationals lineups, camp fees will be split into two payments:

• $1,500 deposit due upon registration

• Remaining balance finalized after Nationals boats are confirmed

Availability

Registration will open first to AJRA athletes, with remaining spots offered to athletes from neighboring programs if space allows. Spots are limited, and early registration is strongly encouraged. This is a high-performance summer experience built for athletes ready to train hard, race fast, and compete on a national stage — all while enjoying the energy, challenge, and camaraderie

of summer rowing.

TECHNICAL DROP-IN PRACTICES

Rowers with some prior competitive experience can enjoy a flexible practice schedule during the summer. Our open practices are for athletes who want to get back on the water and develop their technique and on-water fitness. Space is limited in all practices to enable a low coach-to-athlete ratio, an ongoing emphasis on sculling and boat skills, and a focus on safe distancing and instruction.

PREREQUISITES: Any returning rower or coxswain from Varsity or Novice squads. This camp is open to all high school-aged rowers, including spring seniors.

Practice Times: Coming Soon

Price: TBD

Once registered for an e-punchcard, athletes will be added to an email list with access to a sign-up form for practices which will be accessible on Sunday midday for the upcoming week’s sessions. Rowers must sign up in advance for the sessions they want to attend each week.  Attend the practice times that work for you and your summer schedule!
