AJRA Earns Team Trophy at John Hunter Regatta

March 30th, 2011 Posted by Races & Regattas 0 thoughts on “AJRA Earns Team Trophy at John Hunter Regatta”

Competitors at the John Hunter Regatta at Lake Lanier on March 26 saw hours-long rain delays, schedule changes, and unseasonably cool weather.  But those obstacles couldn’t stop AJRA rowers from accomplishing their goal:  winning the championship team trophy for the youth team scoring the most overall points.  In fact, AJRA was a commanding presence at the regatta, winning every Novice and Varsity Men’s and Women’s 8 event except for the Men’s 2V8, which placed second.

Congratulations, AJRA!  Thanks also to the amazing parents who braved the weather to volunteer and cheer on the team.  Click HERE for the complete results!

Flooding Cancels March 12 Races; All Rowers Now Racing March 19

March 11th, 2011 Posted by Races & Regattas 0 thoughts on “Flooding Cancels March 12 Races; All Rowers Now Racing March 19”
Have you ever felt like something just wasn’t meant to happen — like our March 12 races?  If you’ve been following the news, you may have heard that flooding has been a major problem this week in Chattanooga as a result of recent rains.  McCallie notified us today that the race venue for March 12 has been closed for recreational use through at least next Monday because the water levels on the Chattahoochee River are too high.
AJRA coaches have been scrambling to find alternate race sites and opponents for our rowers.  We now have scheduled all AJRA rowers to race on Sat., March 19: Varsity at Lake Lanier and Novice on the Chattahoochee. The Varsity Women and Men will race Cincinnati Juniors and Saint Andrew at Lake Lanier Rowing Club.   Novice Men and Women will go head-to-head against Saint Andrew on our home course along Azalea Drive.  Race logistics and times will be communicated in an email shortly and will be posted on the Members Only page.  Rowers should let their coaches know if they have a schedule conflict.
Thank you for your patience with these unavoidable changes!

Attention: March 12 Race Plans Changed

Baylor notified us late last week that they will be unable to host the tri-race on the morning of March 12 because of a conflict with another event scheduled on their campus.  The afternoon races against McCallie and Girls Preparatory School will take place as planned .  However, all races will now be held at the GPS campus in Chattanooga.

Varsity Men and Novice Men will race McCallie, and the Varsity Women’s 3rd 8 and Novice Women will race GPS.  The 1st and 2nd Varsity Women’s 8s are not scheduled on March 12 but Varsity Women will now race Cincinnati Juniors and Saint Andrew at Lake Lanier on March 19.  Travel details were communicated in an email and are available on the Members Only page.  We apologize for any inconvenience caused by these changes.

Florida Tri-Race Provides Early Season Lessons

March 1st, 2011 Posted by Races & Regattas 0 thoughts on “Florida Tri-Race Provides Early Season Lessons”

AJRA rowers took to the water for the first races of the Spring Season on Feb. 26 in Tallahassee in a tri-race with OARS and CCR.  These two Florida teams represent some of the strongest competition in the SE Region each year.   In addition to giving our rowers valuable race experience, the races help coaches see how our boats stack up this early in the season.

Highlights include our 2nd Varsity Women’s 8 placing 2nd ahead of CCR in two races and our 3rd VW’s 8 coming in 1st.  For the Varsity Men, the 1st  8 placed 2nd ahead of CCR in one race and the 2nd VM 8 earned 2nd in front of CCR in two races.

Congratulations to our Novice Women and Men with close to half of the rowers on those squads completing their first competition this past weekend!
