Elite College Programs snap up AJRA rowers!

Five members of the Varsity squads from AJRA have committed to row at preeminent college crew programs. Ali Bardowell, a senior at Riverwood High School, will attend Brown University. Walton High School Senior Emily Hornberger received an appointment to the US Naval Academy. Sarah Waye, a senior at Pope High School, will attend Georgetown University. Northview High School senior Matt Cecil has committed to row at Yale University. Pictured left to right are Bardowell, Hornberger, Waye, and Cecil along with AJRA Head Coach and Varsity Men’s Coach John Pearson. In addition, Emma Murray, a senior at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School, will row at UCLA.

Reminder:  The AJRA banquet is Thurs., May 19 at the Windward Marriott Alpharetta.

Registration is 5:30-6 pm with dinner and award presentations from 6-9 pm.

Be sure to bring your checkbook and participate in the silent auction for Aug. 8-14 PGA Championship Tickets at Atlanta Athletic Club!  Two pairs of two grounds ticket packages  were donated by the PGA for the auction.  AJRA will receive all proceeds from the winning bids, valued at $305/ticket with a minimum bid of $610/pair.

Each Season Ticket Package:

  • Provides access to the grounds for all 7 days of the Championship.
  • Comes in the form of 7 individual daily tickets (one for Monday, one for Tuesday, etc.) so you can put together a group of people to bid on a ticket package by splitting up the days you attend.
  • Includes free parking at the Gwinnett Civic Center and free shuttle service to the main entrance of the Championship.
  • Allows up to 4 complimentary junior (aged 17 and under) admissions when accompanied by the ticketed adult.

All Squads Contribute to AJRA’s Strong Showing at SE Regionals

With all squads medaling at SE Regionals at Lake Lanier this past weekend, AJRA came in 2nd place for the top scoring team overall.  Congratulations to our rowers for a great performance!

Highlights for our Novice squads were 2nd place finishes by the men’s 1N 8+ and 2N 8+ and 3rd place for the women’s 1N 8+.

Three Varsity boats earned a trip to the National Youth Championship at Oak Ridge June 10-12 by placing in the top three of their events: VW 2- (3rd place); VW 8+ (2nd place); and VM Lightweight 4+ (1st place).

Thanks to the many awesome parents, siblings, and alumni who supported AJRA by volunteering to work at the regatta.  For complete results, click HERE.

Get Fired Up! SE Regionals Are Here!!

SE Regionals are finally here — May 14-15 at the Olympic venue now home to Lake Lanier Rowing Club in Gainesville.  This is the largest and most competitive race of the spring season, and AJRA is ready!

Parents and families are invited to come to our annual Pep Rally at Azalea Park Pavilion from 5-7:30 pm Thurs., May 12 to show their support before the big race.  A healthy menu of grilled chicken and salad will be provided.

Summer Squad Announced for Returning Rowers

In response to numerous requests, AJRA is excited to offer a Summer Squad for returning rowers at all levels — Developmental Squad, Novice and Varsity. 

Register for AJRA RETURNING ROWER Summer Camp!

The only requirement is to have rowed for a minimum of one season.  The 5-week summer program at the AJRA boathouse is for experienced rowers and coxswains that want to improve their technique and fitness. 

Online registration will open approximately June 1 so keep checking the website.  Pay one low-cost fee ($300 for rowers; $100 for coxswains) and attend as many of the sessions as your schedule permits 8-10:30 am, Monday-Thursday from June 20-July 21.

AJRA Posts Strong Performance at Dogwood Regatta

On a beautiful — but extremely long — day in Oak Ridge this past Saturday, AJRA had an amazing performance as a team.  The Varsity Women medaled in every race, and Varsity Men medaled in every race but one.

Highlights of the day were:
First Place: Men’s Lightweight 8+, Men’s Lightweight 4+, Women’s Varsity 4+, Women’s 2nd Novice 8+
Second Place: Women’s Varsity 8+, Women’s 2nd Varsity 8+, Men’s Varsity 4+
Third Place: Men’s Novice 8+, Women’s Novice 8+, Men’s 2nd Varsity 4+, Men’s 2nd Novice 4+, Women’s 2-.
