This summer, AJRA selected a summer racing squad of 12 varsity men and 12 varsity women to train in Roswell, and to compete July 10-14 at USRowing’s Club National Championships. Many of these rowers were in their first or second year racing with AJRA, and so they were able to gain valuable experience by racing in several different categories and events during Club Nationals.

The highlight of the weekend were AJRA’s two entries in the Men’s Intermediate Lightweight Pairs. Racing up an age category, versus current collegiate and post-collegiate rowers, the two AJRA pairs advanced out of heats into the semifinals. From there, the A-entry of James Virgo and Chandler Boyd qualified for the grand final on Sunday. In the final, Virgo and Boyd went stroke for stroke down the course with University of Wisconsin, though they were edged out across the finish line and earned 4th place.

Overall it was a great experience for the team, and we look forward to the next racing season.
